Position Summary
We are looking for dedicated and dynamic writers to cover breaking political news and sports stories—from local politics to national policy shifts, and from grassroots sports to international competitions. The ideal candidates must possess excellent research and writing skills, an understanding of the Nigerian political or sports landscape, and a drive to deliver impactful, original reporting that informs and engages our audience.
Key Responsibilities
- Generate daily political or sports news stories, in-depth features, and analytical pieces.
- Conduct interviews with key stakeholders—politicians, analysts, athletes, coaches, and fans.
- Monitor developments across political institutions, sporting leagues, and social media for timely and relevant reporting.
- Pitch original story ideas weekly and contribute meaningfully to editorial planning.
- Ensure articles meet in-house editorial standards for accuracy, clarity, and tone.
- Collaborate with editors, photographers, and digital content teams for compelling multimedia coverage.
- Adapt content for web, print, and social platforms using SEO-friendly headlines and formats.
Deliver quality work on tight deadlines, including evenings or weekends when necessary.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Political Science, Mass Communication, English, or a related field.
- 1–3 years of experience writing for print or digital media (Politics or Sports beat preferred).
- Excellent command of written and spoken English.
- Deep knowledge of the Nigerian political or sports landscape.
- Ability to break down complex issues for a broad readership.
- Must be active on social media and familiar with trending topics, public opinion, and digital journalism trends.
- Proficiency in WordPress, SEO tools, and newsroom software is a plus.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends when necessary.
