Position Overview
Our client, a leading specialist hospital in Abeokuta, Ogun State, is seeking a highly experienced and visionary Head of Diagnostics Services to lead and oversee its medical diagnostics department. The ideal candidate will provide strategic leadership, operational oversight, and quality assurance across laboratory, radiology, and pathology services.
This role is critical to enhancing clinical decision-making and patient care by ensuring accurate, timely, and efficient diagnostic service delivery in alignment with global standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Departmental Operations & Workflow
Oversee daily operations across all diagnostic units (laboratory, radiology, and pathology).
Ensure timely processing of tests, report delivery, and optimal equipment utilization.
Work closely with clinical departments to support seamless, integrated patient care.
2. Quality Assurance & Regulatory Compliance
Develop and maintain robust internal quality control (IQC) and external quality assurance (EQA) systems.
Ensure full compliance with national and international diagnostic standards (e.g., MLSCN, ISO 15189, RRBN, WHO).
Lead preparation for inspections, regulatory audits, and accreditation processes.
3. Leadership & Team Development
Lead a multidisciplinary team comprising laboratory scientists, radiographers, technicians, and administrative staff.
Conduct performance appraisals, identify capacity gaps, and implement training plans.
Foster a culture of professional excellence, accountability, and teamwork.
4. Financial & Resource Management
Develop and manage the diagnostics department’s annual budget.
Monitor expenditure to ensure efficient and cost-effective operations.
Oversee procurement, inventory management, and preventive maintenance of diagnostic equipment and consumables.
5. Strategic Growth & Innovation
Identify opportunities for diagnostic service expansion and digital integration.
Champion the deployment and optimization of LIS (Laboratory Information System) and RIS (Radiology Information System).
Collaborate with hospital leadership on strategic initiatives for growth and quality improvement.
Requirements
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Radiography, or a related discipline.
Master’s degree or MBA is a strong advantage.
Full registration and license with relevant professional bodies (MLSCN, RRBN, etc.).
Experience
Minimum of 5 – 7 years of progressive experience in diagnostics, with at least 3 years in a management or supervisory role.
Strong understanding of diagnostic operations, LIS/RIS platforms, and healthcare delivery systems.
Experience managing multi-disciplinary teams in hospital or diagnostic center settings.
Preferred Skills
Proficiency in Hospital Management Systems (HMS).
Familiarity with Lean/Six Sigma or other process improvement methodologies.
Knowledge of diagnostics coding and health insurance billing processes.
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
